About the Author
Stephen Chbosky was born in January 25, 1970. He was born in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. Stephen wrote the book, The Perks of Being a Wallflower which was published in 1999. Stephen had been thinking about the story for about 5 years. He came up with all of his ideas when he was going through a hard time in his life. He had just been through a rough break-up. That break-up lead him to question "why good people get treated so badly?" This is where the infamous quote from the book came from, "we accept the love we think we deserve." The book wasn't necessary an autobiography of his life but his life did influence some of the characters and the events that happen in the book. The character Sam was based on girls who had confined in Stephen. The character Patrick was based on all the "gay kids" he knew who where trying to figure out who they were. Charlie the other main character is "his hope in the form of a character" as said by Stephen Chbosky. Stephen made sure he included in his book what people loved and peoples struggles. Stephen says that he realized that he saw him self in the character Charlie. He says that he realized that he sees the world like charlie and that he often thinks like him as well.(www.layouth.com/interview-with-stephen-chbosky-author-of-the-perks-of-being-a-wallflower/)The perks of being a wallflower is now a best seller.
